Qualifications

The qualification – Distribution, Warehousing and Storage Operations

The qualification is available at three levels and is aimed at distribution, warehousing and storage personnel who handle and store goods within a commercial, wholesale or industrial environment. It is a significantly different qualification to the Storage and Warehousing S/NVQ and reflects the demands for a qualification which is appropriate across organisational sectors. A full list of units is shown overleaf.

The Level 1 Qualification is for employees who work in roles such as warehouse assistants. They must show a sufficient level of competence to complete 3 mandatory units as well as 3 from 6 optional units to gain this award. Units include health and safety in the workplace plus the ability to work effectively.

The Level 2 Qualification is for those in roles such as a warehouse operative. It builds upon the competence shown in the level 2 qualification. The employee must demonstrate a sufficient level of competence to complete 3 mandatory units plus 5 out of 15 optional units. The units include health and safety in the workplace plus the ability to work effectively with colleagues. Also covered are the technical competences required to carry out the tasks involved with the efficient working of a warehouse.

The Level 3 Qualification is for employees who work in a warehouse or storage depot and who have supervisory or managerial responsibilities. It builds upon the competences demonstrated in the level 1 & 2 qualifications. Employees must complete 2 mandatory units plus 6 out of 15 optional units to gain the award. Units include health and safety in the workplace and building relationships with colleagues and customers. Also included are the technical competences required to manage all tasks involved with the efficient management of a warehousing or distribution facility.

Candidates at any level are encouraged to achieve as many units against which they can demonstrate competence and not just the minimum required for a full award.
